Occupational Health and Safety Training within the Scope of the İŞKUR Youth Program
The Occupational Health and Safety Coordinatorship at Balıkesir University (BAÜN) conducted a large-scale training activity for participants in the İŞKUR Youth Program, prioritizing the safety of young people in workforce participation. A total of 655 students within the program completed the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Training, which is of critical importance in the process of preparing for professional life.
This training was conducted online with the aim of raising young people's early awareness of the hazards they may encounter in the workplace and equipping them with the responsibility to protect themselves and their colleagues.
The training was delivered by Mehmet Zeki BARIŞ, a competent and experienced trainer in the field of OHS. Despite the high number of participants, the training maintained an interactive structure and focused particularly on the risks that young people frequently encounter during their first work experiences.
Assistant Coordinator and Occupational Safety Specialist Mehmet Zeki Barış conveyed the following to the young participants:
Risk Culture: The responsibility to recognize hazards in the workplace and report these hazards.
Young Workforce and Legal Rights: Legal rights and responsibilities of young workers within the scope of OHS.
Ergonomics and Work Environment: The importance of proper posture and workstation setup, especially for long-term desk-based or physical work.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Awareness: Correct selection, use, and maintenance of PPE.
Maximum Participation through Digital Transformation
Organizing the training in an online format enabled 655 students to easily access the program without physical restrictions. This success once again demonstrated how effectively Balıkesir University utilizes digital solutions to deliver OHS training to wide audiences.
With this collaboration, the BAUN Occupational Health and Safety Coordinatorship not only contributes to the professional development of young people but also serves the goal of increasing our country's safe workforce potential. It was stated that similar inter-institutional collaborations and training activities will continue to increase.
