Occupational Health and Safety Training Was Organized for Students at Balıkesir Vocational School
Our Coordinatorship conducted a Basic Occupational Health and Safety Training for students at Balıkesir Vocational School.
It was emphasized that, within the scope of the 3+1 applied education model implemented in vocational colleges, where students work directly in workplaces, workshops, laboratories, and field environments during their education, it is of great importance to convey occupational health and safety topics to students during the educational process.
The training was delivered by Assistant Coordinator and Occupational Safety Specialist Dilara ÖZESMER and Workplace Physician Dr. Özgür GÖRGÜLÜ. The training content was prepared taking into account the risks that Balıkesir Vocational School students may encounter during the 3+1 applied education process and after graduation.
By Occupational Safety Specialist Dilara ÖZESMER, topics directly relevant to students' practical training process were covered, such as the concepts of hazard and risk, causes of work accidents, safe working methods, proper selection and use of personal protective equipment, safe operation of machinery and equipment, and appropriate behavior in emergency situations.
The Occupational Physician, Dr. Özgür GÖRGÜLÜ, discussed topics such as occupational diseases, protection of employee health, pre-employment and periodic health examinations, early diagnosis, preventive health services, and the importance of healthy working environments. Additionally, within the scope of the training, first aid topics were covered practically, and basic first aid interventions were demonstrated to the students through application examples.
During the training, it was stated that it is critical for students who will be working at workplaces as part of the 3+1 applied education program to enter the field knowing occupational health and safety regulations; this is essential for preventing work accidents and occupational diseases.
At the end of the training, Balıkesir Vocational School Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatmagül TOLUN presented thank you certificates to Assistant Coordinator and Occupational Safety Specialist Dilara ÖZESMER and Workplace Physician Dr. Özgür GÖRGÜLÜ for their contributions.
The training conducted aims to enable students to develop a safety consciousness during the practical training process and throughout their working lives, to recognize risks in advance, and to internalize the occupational health and safety culture. Our Coordinatorship plans to continue training activities within this scope at different units of our university.
