Occupational Health and Safety Training Was Held for Students of the Kepsut Vocational School Laboratory and Veterinary Health Program
"Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)" training was conducted for students of the Laboratory and Veterinary Health Program at Kepsut Vocational School (MYO). The event, organized to enable students to continue their vocational education under safer conditions in the field and laboratory settings and to prepare them thoroughly for the workforce after graduation, received considerable interest from our students.
In the seminar given by expert OHS trainer Dilara Özesmer, physical, chemical, and biological risks that veterinary health technicians and laboratory assistant candidates may encounter in their work environments were discussed in detail. Considering the hazard class of animal health and medical laboratory fields, measures of vital importance for preventing potential work accidents and occupational diseases were conveyed to our students.
Key Topics Covered in the Training:
Biological Risks and Zoonotic Diseases: Standard precautions and hygiene rules to be followed against diseases that can be transmitted from animals to humans.
Laboratory Safety: Working with chemicals, waste management, and emergency procedures in the laboratory environment.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Use: Selection of the correct mask, gloves, and protective clothing, along with the proper use of these equipment according to standards.
Physical Risks and Ergonomics: Methods to protect against physical trauma during field work and animal interventions.
"Our Aim is to Instill Occupational Safety Culture Before Graduation"
In the evaluations conducted within the scope of the event, it was emphasized that the primary goal was not only to equip students with professional theoretical knowledge but also to send them off to the industry with a solid "occupational safety culture." It was emphasized that being aware of the challenges that will be encountered in the field in advance and taking the necessary precautions is a critical responsibility for both employee and public health.
